Dane Philipsen is the principal oboist for the Atlanta Opera and the Cobb Symphony Orchestra. He also plays with the newly formed Five Points Quintet. In the past, Philipsen played second oboe and English horn for the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Symphony Orchestra from 2003 until 2006. Additionally, he has been heard with the Phoenix Symphony Orchestra, the Kansas City Symphony, and the New World Symphony.

Philipsen graduated with honors with a Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Northern Iowa in 2006. While there, he studied with Tom Barry. He continued his studies with Martin Schuring at Arizona State University where he completed his Master of Music studies in 2008.
